CEE 3720 - Intermediate Solid Mechanics Fall, Summer. Offered in summer through the Engineering Cooperative Program. 4 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: MATH 2940 , ENGRD 2020 , ENGRD 3200 .
D. H. Warner.
To develop an understanding of the mechanical behavior of solids within the context of a 3D continuum mathematical framework. The course aims to develop the ability to rigorously describe and/or predict the deformation and failure of solids using the concepts of linear elasticity, plasticity, and fracture. The course is intended to provide a strong foundation for future courses and practice, and to improve the ability to utilize computers to address real-world problems in mechanics.
Outcome 1: The course is intended to introduce students to the necessary tools for rigorously describing the deformation and failure of solids, and provide the necessary foundation for future courses and practice.
