PLSCS 4200 - Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Concepts and Application Spring. 3 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: PLSCS 2200 or previous experience with GIS, or permission of instructor.

This course applies GIS data management and geospatial techniques to agronomic and natural environmental systems. The course is intended for undergraduate and graduate students interested in advancing their GIS knowledge with additional techniques and hands-on experiences in using GIS concepts/data/tools to address research questions in their interested fields of study.
Outcome 1: Select appropriate spatial data models and scales for diverse application environments.
Outcome 2: Demonstrate proficiency at designing and developing a geospatial database.
Outcome 3: Demonstrate proficiency with geospatial data processing.
Outcome 4: Demonstrate proficiency at applying knowledge of coordinate systems, projections, and datums.
Outcome 5: Conduct an independent applications-based project.
Outcome 6: Develop and present an oral and collaborative group project.
