BEE 3600 - Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering Spring. 3 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: BEE 2600 , biochemistry, linear algebra and ordinary differential equations, or permission of instructor.
B. Barstow.
Biotechnology viewed at the cellular and molecular level. Advances in biotechnology are broken down to their functional parts using the tools of biological engineering (thermodynamics, transport, kinetics, etc.) to understand how and why they work with an emphasis on design. Particular attention paid to gene therapy, synthetic biology, protein engineering, and nucleic acid engineering. Case studies in biomedical, bioprocess, and bioenvironmental engineering.
Outcome 1: Students will demonstrate an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgements which consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts (ABET 4).
