Survey of the different types of pesticides, their uses, properties, and effects on the environment. Discusses the risks, benefits, regulation, politics, and current controversies associated with pesticide use and genetically modified organisms.

Outcome 1: Learn how pesticides interact with organisms.

Outcome 2: Learn about the environmental fate of pesticides and what properties determine the fate.

Outcome 3: Understand the relative merits of different benefits and problems associated with pesticide use.

Outcome 4: Understand the basic properties of different pesticides.

Outcome 5: Understand the human health effects of pesticides.
