DEA 5305 - Health and Healing Studio (LAD-HE) (CU-CEL) Spring. 4 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: DEA 1101 and DEA 1150 with minimum grades of B-, or permission of instructor. Field trip component location TBA.

The built and natural environment can provide efficient and effective mechanisms that restore the body and mind’s ability to heal. In this studio, students will utilize spatial constructs that apply principles of environmental psychology; address code-compliance, critical adjacencies, and workflow circulation; and support evidence-based design principles.
Outcome 1: Use hand drawings, models and computer renderings as means of idea exploration.
Outcome 2: Practice and demonstrate professional verbal and visual communication skills.
Outcome 3: Develop or evaluate heath-facility related design programs.
Outcome 4: Learn how to execute each phase of the design process from programming to design.
Outcome 5: Conduct literature reviews on design research.
Outcome 6: Engage with clients to obtain design information.
Outcome 7: See design as a tool for addressing diversity.
Outcome 8: Enhance awareness of the needs of individuals of different socio-economic backgrounds
Outcome 9: Understand the impact of the physical environment on differently abled people.
Outcome 10: Design for flexibility in an evolving work/care environment; reflect on the impact of service-learning and community engagement.
