VIEN 5205 - Growing Grapes and Making Wines Graduate Laboratory (crosslisted) FDSC 5205 Fall. 2 credits. Letter grades only.
Corequisite: VIEN 5204 . Permission of instructor required. Intended for: graduate students. This course receives more credit than typical for the meeting pattern due to substantial academic activity outside of indtructional hours and requires attendance at field/outreach events not held during course lecture time. Co-meets with FDSC 2205 /VIEN 2205 .

This is a practical winemaking course, planned to increase depth of knowledge about both viticulture and winemaking principles & practices as students learn about them in the Grapes to Wines lecture course. Students practice winemaking and quality management techniques, from monitoring ripening of grapes through cold stability, and observe wine industry practices on numerous field trips. Mandatory weekend trip to Long Island wine region.
