EAS 4860 - Tropical Meteorology and Climate (PHS-AS) (OPHLS-AG) Spring. 4 credits. Letter grades only.
Prerequisite: EAS 3050 or permission of instructor, multivariate calculus, and one semester of university physics. Recommended prerequisite: atmospheric thermodynamics (EAS 3410 ) and atmospheric dynamics (EAS 3420 ), although the latter may be taken concurrently. Co-meets with EAS 6860 .

This course will examine the atmospheric processes responsible for inducing variations in tropical weather and climate on daily to interannual timescales. Computer lab visualization and numerical modeling exercises will deepen student understanding of tropical meteorology, develop programming proficiency, and enhance scientific writing skills.
Outcome 1: Develop and apply numerical data analysis and visualization routines.
