BIOG 1190 - Introduction to General Biology Spring. 3 credits. Student option grading.

This course provides students with the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to continue studies in general biology in the pre-medical curriculum of the six-year medical program. Students will have the necessary biological language ability to enter the six-year medical program including reading and comprehending a college text, summarizing text material and identifying key concepts. Through the study of basic cellular level process, students can advance to organism and population level study. This course is suitable for life sciences majors.
Outcome 1: Students will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of molecular and cellular biology.
Outcome 2: Students will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of evolution and the diversity of life.
Outcome 3: Students will be able to demonstrate the basic lab skills needed for the practical study of general biology.
Outcome 4: Students will be able to communicate important biological concepts clearly using the correct terminology, and express opinions and knowledge of the subject with clarity.
