GDEV 3501 - Development in Action: Winter Faculty-Led Study Trips (CU-ITL) Multi-semester course: Fall, Winter. 2.5 credits. S/U grades only (no audit).
Prerequisite: GDEV 3500 /GDEV 5500 . Permission of instructor required. Course fee: TBA. Varying international locations by section. Co-meets with GDEV 5501 .
Staff.
Each section of this course is a different faculty-led winter study trip that follows a 0.5 credit Fall course where students gain familiarity with a particular global development challenge (i.e., hunger & sustainable food production, inequality across the life course, environmental challenges & solutions, etc.) through readings, lectures, and in-class discussions. Then, in this winter session course, students travel to meet with actors on the ground who are navigating and developing solutions to these challenges.
Outcome 1: Describe the impact of various global and/or local development-related policies, strategies, and interventions in selected countries.
Outcome 2: Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding by engaging respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Outcome 3: Demonstrate adaptability and resilience in unfamiliar and changing environments, recognizing these as essential skills in the field of global development.
