The Department of Information Science is part of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science (CIS). It offers IS majors in the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Arts and Sciences, Engineering students can take the major in Information Science, Systems, and Technology (ISST).

Information Science studies computing in the context of its use, bridging computer science with social science disciplines such as Communication, Economics, Psychology and Sociology.  The primary goal of the Information Science major is to equip students to use both computational and social science methodologies in understanding and designing computing and communications systems.  The Department has about 30 faculty members, 45 resident Ph.D. students, 80 professional master’s degree students and graduates about 80 bachelor’s degree students per year.
